Washington, D.C. – U.S. Representative Heath Shuler released the following statement
tonight following President Barack Obama’s address to the joint session of Congress.
“Tonight we heard the President deliver an honest assessment of our nation’s fiscal future
and the challenges that are before us -- an honest reckoning that was long overdue. With
a national debt of $11 trillion, we must make a real and permanent break from the borrow
and spend policies that have put us in this difficult economic situation. I look forward to
working closely with President Obama to restore America’s fiscal health and put an end
to the budget deficits that threaten future generations.”
