Washington, D.C.-- U.S. Representative Heath Shuler today announced that Buncombe County and the City of Asheville has secured a $965,389.00 grant through the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). The grant will be used to expand terminals and improve safety at the Asheville Regional Airport.
“These grants will help the Asheville Regional Airport make important safety improvements and upgrades as part of its expansion,” Rep. Shuler said. “Tourism is Western North Carolina’s top industry, and it is important that local airports meet our region’s growing transportation needs. This grant ensures the Asheville Regional Airport is able to continue serving travelers safely and efficiently.”
The DOT/FAA grant will provide federal funding for the expansion of the south end of Concourse A, additions on both the main and upper levels, and a curtain wall. This grant will also provide funding for the addition of emergency escape stairs and a new Aircraft Rescue and Fire Fighting vehicle to ensure the airport meets federal safety requirements.
