USDA funds will go toward construction of a new wastewater treatment facility
Washington, D.C. – U.S. Representative Heath Shuler today announced that the Town of Robbinsville has secured a $1,665,000 Rural Utilities loan and a $3,000,000 Rural Utilities grant through the U.S. Department of Agriculture. This combined $4,665,000 in funding will be used to build a new wastewater treatment plant.
“This funding is a victory for the town of Robbinsville and all of its residents and businesses,” said Rep. Shuler. “For years Robbinsville has made do with a dangerously outdated, problem-prone wastewater treatment plant. A new facility is long overdue and will provide Robbinsville with the infrastructure it needs to support economic and residential growth now and in the future.”
The funds from the USDA grant and loan will be used to make improvements to the collection system and construct a new wastewater treatment plant. The proposed project includes the construction of a new plant, sewer lines, manholes, pump station, and other additional structures necessary for a safe and efficient wastewater treatment system. The new facility will allow Robbinsville to become compliant with its operating permit and meet future growth needs.
“Saying thank you just isn’t enough to express our gratitude to Congressman Shuler, his chief of staff Hayden Rogers, and everyone else in his office for what they have done to help the town of Robbinsville,” said Bobby Smith, Alderman of the town of Robbinsville. “Our current wastewater treatment plant is the biggest problem the town of Robbinsville has ever faced. We called Congressman Shuler when we were on our last leg and he jumped on the problem immediately. This facility would never have been possible without Mr. Shuler’s work and we are extremely thankful for his leadership.”
